The "Practical Extraction and Reporting Language" is written by Larry Wall. Today it has a huge following and has been extended in almost every conceivable direction

CCS has written many data processing scripts, network programs in Perl, and continue to use it for 'quick&dirty' scripts that do not require the security and tuning of C and C++ programs.

For one client, we wrote a scripting-language to execute multiple batch jobs in parallel and handle dependencies. This script later grew to become a major part of this client's computing solution. This product was written entirely in Perl.
